Watts, born 28 September 1968 was an British actress. Her debut film role came
in Australia in For Love Alone (1986) and was followed by three TV shows: Hey
Dad.. (1990), Brides of Christ (911) and Home and Away (1991) and Flirting
(1991). Watts relocated to America in the year 2000. She initially struggled as
an actor. In actual fact, she was only able to get minor roles in films prior
to becoming a aspiring actress in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive psychological
thriller. Her rise to global fame was due to this part. Watts played the part
of a journalist suffering from depression in The Ring, a horror film remake.
She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as
a grief-stricken mother in the Alejandro film 21 Grams (2003). Watts continued
to climb in the spotlight with her roles in I Heart Huckabees (2004) and King
Kong (2005) as well as Eastern Promises (2007) and The International (2009).
For her role as Maria Bennett in the disaster film The Impossible (2012), Watts
got another Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She was in films like
Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014) and While We're Young (2015). Watts was also
a regular actor in blockbusters, and made appearances in the Divergent
franchise (2015-2016).
